Tips for making your home more inviting

Believe it or not, but the weather is not the reason why your home has a warm or cold atmosphere. It is all about the accents in your home that play a big role in whether your guests basically want to move in or flee before taking a seat. Here are 5 tips for making your home more inviting, especially when you’re expecting company:

1. Your entrance matters:

Unless your guests climb in through the window, you should make sure your entrance is welcoming. Here your visitors make mental notes about whether they want to come in or have the conversation from their car. A rug and a mirror are great details to add here.

2. Note the nose:

Opening some windows before guests arrive is a good place to start. It also helps to light some incense or a candle – these make for a lingering aroma. Freshly baked cookies leave an amazing smell too (just make sure you’ll be offering some to your visitors).

3. Create intimacy:

Imagine yelling the conversation to each other because of how dispersed the seating area is. Narrow the awkward distance by having small stools that allow for easy moving. Don’t add too much furniture that will need for your guests to wiggle and squeeze through to move around the house.

4. Prepare the bed:

If your guests will be spending the night, prepare their bed and bedding before they arrive. If you’re fumbling linen while they watch, they will feel as though they are hassling you to work, and your “don’t worry, I really don’t mind doing this now” doesn’t make them feel at ease either.

5. Smaller details:

Toilet paper. Room spray. Clean hand towel. Small blanket. Have these out so your guests don’t feel the need to request them. Receipts. Coins. Toppling magazines. These should be kept away from guest areas because of their untidy nature.
